Join us on a three-week creative spiritual journey through the Hebrew month of Elul in preparation for the Jewish High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. During this season we open our hearts to embrace the new and shed the old, awakening our spirits as we transform and draw closer to the Divine. Together we'll journey through four metaphorical gates—from awakening to release—each one inviting us to pause, reflect, and create as we prepare ourselves for the turning of the year. Drawing on powerful images from Jewish text and tradition, we’ll explore how the gates of awakening, tears, justice, and return can soften and open us to transformation.
During these weekly 90-minute, virtual sessions we will engage in the Jewish Studio Process, a unique methodology that builds creative capacity by combining art therapy practices with a reimagined approach to Jewish learning. This series will be facilitated by Hannah Richman Kearney .
Hannah Richman Kearney (she/her) is a Jewish educator, Director of the Well at Temple Beth Elohim, and a painter. She came to the Jewish Studio Process through her two deepest passions — Judaism and art. Through her acrylic paintings, Hannah explores the way light meets land, captured in the flash of paint. Her fascination with landscape is rooted in part in her upbringing in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, a formerly industrial town in the foothills of Appalachia. She received her B.A. in painting from Brandeis University in 2010 and has since worked as an educator and artist in the Jewish world, living in Framingham, Massachusetts.
This series is offered in partnership with The Well at Temple Beth Elohim.
The Well at TBE integrates Jewish spiritual practices and modern mindfulness tools and techniques to provide a source of wellbeing through learning, practice, prayer, and support for individuals on their own and in community.
These weekly in-person sessions run from Tuesday, August 18 to Tuesday, September 1. This program is $100, with sliding scale options, and will take place at The JSP Studio: Hebrew College at 1860 Washington St, Newton.
